The artist formerly known as

Posted February 18th, 2008 by Rachel

If it’s good enough for Prince, or “The Artist Formerly Know As”, or whatever he’s calling himself these days, then it’s good enough for me.

I use a variety of different avatars in various places across the web, some match whatever name I go by in that particular establishment (I have a variety of names I use, for various reasons, not least because on occasions someone’s got there with the name before I have), and some are just images I like. I decided though that some standardisation was called for, not least so’s I recognise myself when half asleep and thinking, “Who’s that idiot rambling on like some demented fisherwoman?!”

And so I decided I needed my own personalised “squiggle”. My instructions to my logo designers were characteristically vague…”Um, has to be blue, something to do with my initials would be good…oh, and I like angels.” This was the result. I hope you like it, because this is the new “me” that’s going to be with me for the rest of eternity. Or at least quite a while.

If you’re wondering why a little stick person’s got wings (something to do with Red Bull?), it’s not actually a stick person at all, or at least it’s not intended to be. It is in fact a variation on the “female” sign (a circle with a cross), intertwined with my initials (if you sort of squint at it and close one eye), and of course the wings are a reference to “Fallen Angel”, the name of my as yet unfinished magnus opus, and also the name I go by at a number of online venues. Pretty damned clever of the logo designers considering the somewhat garbled information they were given to work with. I like it anyway.

…and as another plus, the JBVoices-esque bubbles on the left of the page are now gone too! Gill will be pleased! ;)
