Some good news at last

Posted February 9th, 2008 by Rachel

Well I had an appointment at the hospital with orthoptics yesterday to get my prisms adjusted, and have a field test, as it’s over a year since my last one, and my neuro’s not too hot on referring me for them. My prisms have changed slightly, and I still have major problems with double vision, particularly for close work as previous spells of high pressure have damaged my cranial nerves that govern how my eyes work together, but my field test was overall much the same as last years. I’ve still got very little peripheral vision on my left side, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to come back, but I haven’t lost any more. Right side’s about the same too, though I have more peripheral vision on that side. My blind spots are still enlarged, but I guess that’s to be expected, particularly as my shunt’s not working too well at the moment and I’m waiting for a new one.

Appointment with my optician today for a routine sight test. Fortunately he knows me of old, and knows the peculiarities of my eyes, and in fact he was the one that first spotted the papilloedema back before I was diagnosed with IIH. He’s pretty happy with things too, and though possibly I might benefit from a slight change in prescription, he says to wait a while and see what effect the extra prisms orthoptics have put on has, and of course things may change after I’ve had the op. All in all though, things are looking okay and my eyes have stabilised, which is pretty good news.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said for my INR at the moment, which this week when I went to the anti-coagulation clinic has plummeted inexplicably to 1.3 (my therapeutic range is 2 to 3, and ideally it should be around 2.5), so I’m up to 10mg of warfarin a day at the moment, and back to the clinic next week to see what effect that’s had.  *sigh*
